Topaz Gigapixel AI upgrade – It’s a kind of magic…

by | Apr 10, 2020 | A.I. Gigapixel, Photo Software Reviews, Topaz Labs | 0 comments

The guys and gals at Topaz Labs have done it again. The Gigapixel AI upgrade is out, and it’s better than ever. Also, if you already own it, then this upgrade is free.

What is Gigapixel AI?

It enlarges digital images. So what? Every image manipulation program can do that. But no other tool does it half as well as Gigapixel AI! I use it on all my enlargements, especially for printing, and the results are incredible.

This new release has:

New features

  • Update whole user interface to match DeNoise / Sharpen batch workflow
  • Add ability to specify different processing settings per item in the batch

Improvements

  • New installer framework (can keep old one installed)
  • Add ability to auto-append enlargement mode to filename
  • Redesigned Preferences panel
  • Redesigned Save As and Batch Processing panel

Gigapixel AI – The test

Today, I’m pitching the latest version against Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo is the Adobe Photoshop alternative. It’s on my list of ‘must have’ photo software. It is excellent at all that it does. So, it’s a stern contender in every department. Yet Gigapixel AI destroys it for image enlargements.

The test image

This is a favourite image. It’s sharp, well exposed, and has sold well. So, it’s a fair test of the software and is typical of the type of image that you would use this with.

Gigapixel AI Test Picture Rydal Water

For this test, I will double the size of this picture. Here are the results:

Test results:

In each sample, the original picture is on the right, Affinity Photo’s 200% enlargement is on the left and Gigapixel AI’s 200% enlargement is in the middle. These examples are at 100% magnification. Click on each image to see the full size photo…

Topaz Gigapixel AI – Conclusion

The evidence is right there before your eyes. Gigapixel AI’s enlargement is far superior to Affinity Photo’s. It is at least as sharp as the original picture!

What this means is simple: Gigapixel AI has doubled the size of an image with NO loss of quality.

And now you know why I rate it so highly!

This is enlarging a good image. Gigapixel can also work wonders with small images and phone images, giving enlargements that you would not have thought possible.
